Dr. Gurjit Gakhal                         Family / Sedation / Implants

About Us

Dr. Gurjit Gakhal graduated in 1997 from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Science Honors in Biochemistry.   He went on to graduate from Dentistry also at UBC in the top 10% of his class.   He is a strong believer in continually updating and extending his knowledge base and frequently takes courses to make him the optimal dentist.   He is a member of the Canadian Dental Association, the BC Dental Association, the Saanich RV Tucker study club, and is a fellow with the International

Congress of Oral Implantologists.  He has completed several courses at the KOIS Centre, a leading edge dental education institution based on current science and research in dentistry.  He recently completed the Master Clinician Implant Program with the Global Institute for Dental Education.

Dr. Gakhal practiced in Burns Lake for 2 years before settling in Victoria.  Dr. Gakhal has volunteered in Guatemala providing dental services to people who otherwise wouldn’t have access to dental
care.  He has also worked in Northern Manitoba and at the Cool-Aid clinic providing service to lower income clients.   Consequently he is experienced in and provides a broad range of dental services.  Along with general dentistry he also places implants and can provide IV sedation.

Dr. Gakhal is married and has two beautiful girls, who are the apples of his eye.  He also shares his home with a young cat named Toopy.  He enjoys trap-shooting, and you can find him most week-ends at one of the Island ranges.

Cathy has worked in the practice since graduating  from Camosun College as a

Certified Dental Assistant in 1985. After assisting for five years she moved to

reception.  She is now another friendly and smiling face at the front desk and

would be happy to assist you with your dental needs.  Cathy was born and

raised in Victoria and is married with three children. She enjoys the farm life

out in Central Saanich, hiking, and walking her dog Buddy.

Taylor was born and raised in Courtenay, BC.  she graduated from the dental

assistant program at Vancouver Island University in 2012.  Taylor enjoys her role at

Dr. Gakhal's office and is always up for a good laugh.

Angela has been with the practice since 2001, after graduating from the

Certified Dental Assistant program at Camosun College.  Since working

with Dr. Gakhal she's had the opportunity to continue her education with

courses on implants, IV conscious sedation and Invisalign; she is currently studying

for the Dental Anaesthesia Assistant National Certification Exam.  Angela is

married and has a five year old daughter and one year old son.  In her spare time

she enjoys being with her family, crocheting and reading--though it takes much,

much longer to finish a book with two young ones!  When she is not at

the office she can usually be found at one of the many local parks with her

husband and children.

Alicia has worked in the office since 2009, after graduating from the

Registered Dental Hygiene program in Toronto. Previously she worked

as a Certified Dental Assistant before pursuing her goal of going back to

school to become a Dental Hygienist. Alicia is from the beautiful Okanagan

and goes back to visit whenever she can.

Angela first started working with Dr. Gakhal in 2008 as a Certified Dental

Assistant. After finishing the Dental Hygiene program in Ontario in 2010

Angela was thrilled to come back to work with Dr. Gakhal as a dental

hygienist. On her days off Angela keeps busy with riding her horse, hiking

with her dog as well as spending time with her family and friends.

Jessica started working for Dr. Gakhal in April 2015.
She was a certified dental assistant in Nanaimo, BC before going back to school for her dental hygiene diploma in Ottawa. She recently
moved back to Vancouver Island to be close to her family.
Outside of work, Jessica enjoys spending time with friends and family, being outdoors, and reading.

Eryn has a degree in Physical Geography and another in Forest Operations

from the University of British Columbia.  After being frustrated with several layoffs

she decided to pursue something more stable, and was pointed in the

direction of Dental Hygiene.  She graduated with a  Diploma in Dental

Hygiene from Vancouver Commuity College in 2004.   While she is primarily

a hygienist, you may also find her helping out at reception, administering local

anesthetic, hanging pictures, taking pictures or very rarely assisting.  Eryn currently holds her

Canadian Dental Assistants Anaesthesia Certification, so you will find her monitoring patients

vitals when they are under IV sedation.   When not at the office

Eryn enjoys spending time with her wonderful daughters, running, cycling, swimming and the great outdoors.
